Facts About Arnold Arnold is a suburb of Nottingham and is to the north-east of the city boundary in the local government district of Gedling.
Arnold has only had a market since 1968, and had a number of factories associated with the hosiery industry.
The town has a population of 35,900 (2000 data).
Today Arnold forms part of Greater Nottingham lying on the North eastern edge of the city and in the local government Borough of Gedling. The town's most notable landmark is probably the Home Ales building in Daybrook. Founded in 1875, this brewery was famous for its Robin Hood logo on beer mats.
Arnold was also referred to as 'Ernehale' in past history and even has a mention in the Domesday Book, which translates as 'the valley of eagles'.
In reality though it is doubtful that Arnold could have have been a haunt of eagles, due to the fact that they inhabit areas of rocky outcrops and the nearest suitable location is Creswell Crags, roughly 20 miles north-west as the crow flies.
